Who We Treat
We treat everyone from early-aged children to the elderly, and will perform an age-appropriate examination to determine if you are a candidate for our treatment. If so, then we will create the most effective treatment plan possible for you! Accordingly, we have many patients in each age group. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
Most people can benefit from some form of chiropractic care. As we age, the rigors of day-to-day living can cause our bodies to subtly slip out of alignment. These biomechanical dysfunctions can range from mild to severe and in some cases may grow debilitating, causing a wide range of symptoms. As adults, keeping our bodies in alignment is very important in order to maintain the highest quality of life. No one wants to live in pain yet often this fallacy becomes something we convince ourselves to settle for in order to get by. Complete Care Chiropractic caters to all manner of adults in all sorts of professions. From chefs to office workers to roofers to other doctors, we strive to help our patients heal, and find hope and wholeness through excellence in chiropractic care.
Many spinal problems seen in adults can actually begin as early as birth. In fact, even the birthing process can place a considerable degree of stress on an infant’s spine and developing nervous system. As a result, spinal and cranial misalignments may create irritation of the nervous system and surrounding musculature. This dysfunction can play a significant role in a number of conditions such as colic, torticollis, sleep disturbances, and nursing difficulties. If neglected, injuries in childhood may lead to more serious problems later in life such as chronic neck pain, headache, and low back pain.
If any complications are suspected, it is vital to have an infant evaluated as soon as possible in order to identify and address any issues that may be present. Through a thorough examination and history, the Doctor of Chiropractic can determine any areas of emerging concern. Using the knowledge about your child gained in the initial visit, the Chiropractor can begin treatment protocols that will lay the foundation for healthy, strong, and stable spinal and muscular development.
These chiropractic adjusting procedures are of course modified according to the child’s size, weight, and unique spinal condition. They are both gentle and specific; utilizing a pressure similar to that which is used to check the ripeness of a tomato. Most parents report that their children enjoy being adjusted and even look forward to follow-up visits. They also corroborate a greater level of health in their children with regular chiropractic care. Pregnancy can wreak havoc on spinal muscles, ligaments, and joints. Throughout pregnancy the body releases a hormone known as relaxin intended to “relax” muscles and ligaments of the pelvis in preparation for the birthing process. Subsequently, this can also result in hypermobility and instability of the sacro-iliac joints (joints of the pelvis). The body compensates with increased muscle tension throughout the low back, hips, and pelvis in order to secure the structure. This joint dysfunction and muscular tension can result in pain throughout these regions and even in the mid-back as well as conditions such as sciatica.
The goal of the Chiropractor is to evaluate, identify, and assess areas or misalignment and muscular imbalance throughout the spine and pelvis. Once discovered, the Chiropractor can apply a variety of treatment methods to maintain proper motion, increase strength and stability, and decrease pain episodes. These procedures include soft tissue muscle work, stretching/strengthening exercises, and gentle, specific adjusting. Each treatment is uniquely tailored to the individual and their specific condition.
Regular chiropractic care can result in a healthier pregnancy. Many patients report decreased pain throughout their pregnancy as well as during the birthing process. In addition, numerous patients have confirmed that they were able to return to healthy levels of spinal strength and stability post-partum more readily as a result of regular chiropractic care.
The process of birth can be aggressive or even traumatic to a baby’s body. As a result, babies can have musculoskeletal shifts and/or injuries just like adults can. However, a baby cannot tell their parents that they are experiencing pain or discomfort. Therefore, many parents will have their children examined and evaluated for musculoskeletal changes that may need to be corrected. These can be subtle and minimal, however, we have seen more extensive injuries that have occurred.
A condition we often see in babies upon birth is called torticollis. This is when the baby’s head is turned to one side, typically from musculoskeletal injuries. By treating the musculoskeletal system, often including the joints and the muscles together, we have experienced considerable success in resolving this troubling condition.
Even beyond birthing injuries or discomforts, many daily activities may cause shifts in the musculoskeletal system of babies, similar to that in adults. Some of these may include crawling, playing, or turning in certain ways. Addressing these shifts early are beneficial, promoting overall health and the comfort of the child.
It is important to note that treating a baby is extremely different than treating an adult. Very minimal pressure is necessary to achieve great results with little ones. Also, the treatment can be performed in many different positions based upon the baby’s comfort. Some of these may include being gently held by the doctor, or even by the baby’s mother or father. The adjustment and soft tissue treatments are all very gentle, and the baby will typically enjoy the treatment.
“Quality of life” is a term that is often used today somewhat generically, but it should be noted that it can only be measured by the individual. Managing pain can be a big part of one’s quality of life if the individual is hurting. We are deeply concerned about all of our patients and enjoy building relationships with them, especially seniors. Helping them manage pain, and find comfort and relief is a huge part of what we do at Complete Care Chiropractic.
As we go through the aging process, our bodies can start to ache and certain muscles can lose strength, causing tension and pulling on our joints. The resulting effect can create varying degrees of pain and discomfort. Our treatment aims to re-align those joints and in some cases work the muscles surrounding them that cause this pain. The greatest feeling is to hear someone’s grandparent talk about the pain they used to be in, and how our treatment gave them a better quality of life.
